This is what happens when residents decide they don’t need Whitey. I remember Cairo as a booming metro area. Regional school band concerts held there. Great hobby shops to acquire models, models and more models. Loved chowing down at What-A-Burger. Traveled through Cairo enroute to visit family in Missouri. Recall a huge NABISCO campus there. Every December, Mom & I would pick up my Aunt Doris Jean at the bus station there to spend Christmas with us. Loved visiting with the Old Lady of Magnolia Manor. Such a gracious Hostess and so knowledgeable of the local history. I still have two mailing envelopes from the Civil War that she gave to me. One Union and one Confederate. Cairo’s current condition truly breaks my heart.
