…people–even ignorant and stupid people–understood that there was nothing intrinsically good about “diversity.” “Diversity” simply means “variety” or “multiformity.” Diversity per se has no qualitative meaning. In pursuit of a more “diverse” community, do we want more thieves and rapists? Do we want more drunks, cigarette smokers, slothful or slovenly people? Do we want more ill-tempered, deceitful people?
Diversity per se is not a strength. Diversity per se does not make for a stronger community, state, or country. What makes strong, healthy, decent societies is the presence of people committed to truth, people who recognize that all humans–including girls, boys, men, women, those in the womb, and those in nursing homes are created in the image and likeness of God and have equal value.
The strength of the body politic depends on the presence of people committed to self-control, the Constitution, laws, and respect for others. Respect for others, however, does not entail respecting everything others feel, believe, or do.
Muslims who hate American founding principles and documents; who believe women are ontologically inferior to men; who believe women should be covered head to toe in black tents; who want the death of America, Israel, and Jews; who affirm the practice of child-marriage like the evil Mohammed did; who want to kill homosexuals; and who behead their enemies do not make any community stronger or better.
Diversity can be corrosive, dis-integrative–a cultural solvent.
